Gal Baapji or Galdev of Bheels

According to the myths, Gal Baapji or Galdev of Bheels resembles the God Narasimha, but no idol for Galbaapji is made like other deities. For the accomplishment of any desired wish or work, tribal people make a vow.

Galdev's place is in an open place under the platform made of four thick and long wood pillars about thirty feet long. Only one high thick pillar goes from this middle place, on the top of which a horizontal log is fixed by making a hole. To overcome illness and other obstacles, a person from the Bheel family seeks the blessings of Galdev. In the month of Phagun, on completion of his wish at the time of Bhagoriya fair, after offering a sacrifice to Galdev, he takes five or seven rounds by hanging on his back on the cross log above and fulfills his vow.

गल बापजी

कथा के अनुसार भीलों के गल बापजी या गलदेव का स्वरूप भगवान नरसिंह से मिलता-जुलता है। किन्तु अन्य देवताओं की ही तरह इनकी भी कोई मूर्ति नहीं बनाई जाती। किसी भी मनोवांछित कार्य अथवा मन्नत की सिद्घि के लिए मनौती माँगते हैं। गलदेव का स्थान एक खुली जगह पर चार मोटी लगभग तीस फीट लम्बी बल्लियों पर बने मंच के नीचे, बीचों-बीच में होता है। इस मध्य स्थान से ही एक ऊँची बल्ली जाती है, जिसके शीर्ष पर छेद कर एक आड़ी बल्ली लगाई जाती है। बीमारी तथा अन्य बाधाओं से पार पाने के लिये भील परिवार का कोई व्यक्ति गलदेव की मानता लेता है। वह फागुन माह में भगोरिया मेले के समय मानता पूरी होने पर गलदेव के लिए बलि देकर ऊपर लगे आड़े खम्भे पर पीठ के बल लटक कर पाँच या सात फेरे लेकर मानता उतारता है।
