Saaj Tree

The 'Saja' tree has a significant place in the Gonda tribe. It is believed that the 'Badadev' resides in it. That's why this tree has been recognized as a 'sacred tree' by the Gonds. The concept of 'Bana' instrument is also associated with this tree, which can be seen around it. The 'Bharahi' bird sitting on the Saja tree is the motivator of the 'Bana' instrument because the first Gond had made this string instrument after listening to her voice.

Pardhans have special respect in the Gond tribe. Pradhan is the conductor of the knowledge tradition of Gonds. Earlier he used to go from village to village to narrate stories, in return the Gond farmers used to give him grains and other useful things. With this mutual cooperation and interdependence, the Pardhan used to educate the Gond community. 'Pardhan' used to narrate the story of the origin of Narmada on 'Bana' instrument that how Narmada river started flowing in the opposite direction and how they have to respect Narmada throughout their life.

Here too, the abstract 'Pardhan' can be felt singing the glory of 'Narmada', which is being watched from above by Gond deities all the time. It is also expressed here.

साजा पेड़

गोण्ड जनजाति में 'साजा' के वृक्ष की विशेष महता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि 'बड़ा देव' इस पेड़ में निवास करते हैं। इसलिये इस वृक्ष को गोण्डों द्वारा पवित्र वृक्ष की मान्यता दी गई है। इस वृक्ष की परिकल्पना में 'बाना' वाव भी सन्निहित है, जिसे वृक्ष के चारों ओर देखा जा सकता है। साजा वृक्ष पर बैठी 'भरी' चिड़िया 'बाजा' वाद्य की प्रेरक है। इसकी आवाज सुनकर ही सबसे पहले गोण्डने 'बाना' तार वाय को बनाया।

गोण्ड जनजाति में परधानों को विशेष सम्मान प्राप्त है। परधान गोण्डों की ज्ञान परम्परा के संवाहक है। पहले वह गाँव-गाँव जाकर कथाओं को सुनाने का कार्य करता था, बदले में गोण्ड किसान उसे अनाज एवं अन्य उपयोगी वस्तुएँ देता था। इस आपसी सहकार और अन्तर्निर्भरता से परधान अपने वृहत्तर गोण्ड समुदाय को संस्कारित करता था, उसके बदले किसान परधान के जीवन आधार की चिन्ता रखता था।

'परथान' पर नर्मदा के उद्भव की कहानी 'बाना सुनाता था कि कैसे नर्मदा मैया उलटी दिशा में बहती हैं और नर्मदा मैया का उसे कैसे सम्मान जीवन भर करना है।

यहाँ भी 'नर्मदा' का गान करता अमूर्त 'परधान 'गायक अनुभूत किया जा सकता है, जिसे गोण्डों के देवता हर क्षण देख ऊपर से रहे हैं। यह भी दीर्घा में अभिव्यक्त है।
