पिथौरा

पिथौरा भील चित्र परम्परा का सबसे सुंदर उदाहरण है। यह देवी-देवताओं के आह्वान और पूजा का सबसे पवित्र और प्रमुख अवसर होता है। वस्तुतः यह भील जनजाति का अनुष्ठानिक चित्रण है जो एक भित्ति चित्र के रूप में होता है। इसके आलेखन की परम्परा विशेषकर मध्यप्रदेश के धार, झाबुआ और निमाड़ अंचल में है। गुजरात और राजस्थान के भीलों में भी यह प्रथा देखने को मिलती है।

पिथौरा पूजन कम वर्षा वाले भीली क्षेत्रों में वर्षा के आह्नान और जल को ईश्वरीय देव के रूप में पूजे जाने की सदियों पुराना अनुधान है। ईदी राजा (इंद्रदेव) ने अपने भांजे पिधीरा को अपना राजपाट सौंपकर वैराग्य ले लिया था, यह विश्वास ही पिथौरा मिथक के भित्ति चित्रांकन की मूल भावना में निहित है। पिथौरा भित्ति चित्र भीलों के जनजातीय स्मृति के व्यापक मिथकीय संसार की कलात्मक अभिव्यक्ति है। इसका सम्बम्ध जैविक, प्रजनन, कृषि की उर्वरता और अनाज समृद्धि से है। पिथौरा में धर्मराजा और काजलराणी की कथा के साथ घोड़ेका चित्रांकन मुख्य रूप से होता है।

पिथौरा मध्यप्रदेश की किसी भी जनजाति में चित्रांकित होने वाला एकमात्र आख्यान है जिसमें कया- गायन और वादन भी साथ ही साथ सम्पन्न होता है। पियौरा का गायन बड़वा द्वारा ढाँक वाद्य की संगति में किया जाता है। गायन की कथा अनुसार लिखन्दरा चित्रांकन करता जाता है। यह उसका जातीय कर्म होता है। महत्वपूर्ण यह है कि यह अनुष्ठानिक आवरणों के उपरांत ही आँकत किया जा सकता है। इसकी मानता ली जाती है। इछित उद्देश्य की प्रतिपूर्ति होने के उपरांत इसका अंकन घर के प्रवेश द्वार के सम्मुख की दीवार पर कराया जाता है, ताकि प्रवेश एवं निर्गम करते हुए उसके प्रति श्रद्धा व्यक्त की जा सके।

Pithora

Pithora is the most beautiful example of Bheel painting tradition. This is the most pious and important occasion for invoking and worshiping the deities. In fact, it's a ritual representation in the form of a mural painting. The tradition of its drawing is present specially in the Dhar, Jhabua and Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh. Pithora making can be seen in the Bheels of Gujarat and Rajasthan as well.

Pithora worshiping is a centuries-old ritual of invoking rain god and worshiping water as a divine deity in bheeli areas of less rainfall. The Indi king (Indradev - the king of deities) took renunciation by handing over his throne to his nephew (sister's son) Pithora, this belief lies in the basic spirit of the mural painting of the Pithora myth. Actually the Pithora murals are an artistic expression of the vast mythological world of the tribal memory of the Bheels. It is related to biological, productiveness, fertility of agriculture and grain opulence. Horse painting with the story of Dharmiraja and kajalrani is mainly done in Pithora.

Pithora is the only narrative depicted in any tribe of Madhya Pradesh, in which story-singing and playing of instrument are also accomplished simultaneously. Pithora is sung by Badwa (local priest) along with 'Dhank' instrument and Likhandara paints according to the story of the song. This is his caste karma (job). The most important thing is that it can be performed within ritualistic practices. A vow is taken to perform it. After the desired purpose is accomplished, pithora making is done on the wall in front of the entrance of the house, so that gratitude can be expressed while entering and exiting the house.
